ITINERARY
Day 1: Delhi (315m) to Dharamshala (1387m)
Leave Delhi for Dharamshala in the evening by 2X2 luxury bus.
Day 2: Arrival at Dharamsala in the morning and check in at a hotel.
Visit the Norbulinga Institute of Tibetan Culture that was founded by the Department of Religion and Culture to preserve Tibetan culture. Also visit Chinmaya Tapovan that was established by Swami Chinmayanand. There is a 9m tall Lord Hanuman image and Rama temple. The evening is kept free to visit the market at Mcleodganj known as little Lhasa. Mcleodganj is the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Remaining day for acclimatisation
Day 4: Dharamshala (1387m) / Mcleodganj (1770m) - Triund (2975m); 3km trek; 2975m; 5 hrs; level-easy
Leave Mcleodganj for Dharamkot which is the starting point of the trek with beautiful views of Kangra valley and Dhauladhar range of mountains. It takes 3 hours to reach Triund. Below the valley, one can enjoy the sunset and plains of Punjab and Shivalik Ranges. The place is unique for stargazers; green meadows give a cosy feeling to the tired trekker. Triund at 2975m is known to those who seek shelter in caves and do yoga and meditation. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 5: (Triund - Lahesh Cave; 3350m; 6km; 4-5hrs; level-easy).
Gradual ascent through pine forests to open meadows. Next destination of the trek is Charang. The journey takes 3 hours. The Lahesh Cave is located at the base of Indrahara Pass. The trek crosses Laqa Gote. Overnight stay in the camp or if possible in the caves.
Day 6: Lahesh Cave - Chatta Parao (3256m) over Indrahara Pass; 4350m; 11km; 5-6 hrs; level-moderate
Tough day of trek for moderate trekkers (Trek time: 8-10 hours) and for experienced trekkers (Trek time: 5-6 hours)
We trek uphill for 3-4 hours, it is a steep and taxing climb. This is the most frequented pass. Trekkers and shepherds choose this pass en route to Chamba and Bharmaur, views of the central Himalayas and great Himalayan ranges are captivating from this pass. One can have a glimpse of Chamba Kailash from this pass, camping is done at Chatta Parao under the rock shelter or we pitch tents below Chatta Parao at Mondore after 3-4km. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 7: Chatta Parao - Kwarsi; 2730m; 13km; 5-6 hrs; level-easy
Kwarsi is a beautiful village perched on a slope and surrounded by forests of mixed variety. Lush green fields give a nice look; there is a Shiva temple here where trekkers generally retire for the night. We can take a beautiful village tour. At night, we will have a rural cultural programme around a campfire.
Day 8: Kwarsi -Choli; (1800m; 12km; 5-6 hrs; level-easy and 2 hrs bus to Chamba - 996m)
On the 5th day, we take a steep descent, down the dangerous narrow paths at a few places to reach the bus road below Choli village. Our last journey for the trek. There we have a bus to travel to Chamba town. (48km away). Evening is free to explore the historical town of Chamba. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 9: In Chamba (912m)
This is a historically important town, worth seeing, and is generally not covered by most tours. A visit to the Laxmi Narayan temple of Chamba which is a masterpiece of the Himalayan heritage architecture and the Bhuri Singh museum. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
Day 10: Chamba (912m) - Khajjiar (1938m)
Leave for Khajjiar (also called 'mini Switzerland of India') after lunch. Check in at exactly the heart of the great Khajjiar Meadows at Hotel Mini Swiss.
Day 11: Khajjiar (1938m) - Dalhousie (2036m) - Khajjiar
Visit Kalatope wild life sanctuary. And visit Subhash Bowli which is dedicated to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose - the Indian revolutionary leader. Back to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 12: Khajjiar - Chakki bank
After breakfast leave for Chakki bank. (6-7 hrs) reach station for onward journey to Delhi.
