During this hike, one can enjoy clear views of majestic peaks of Panchchuli, Nanda Devi, Nilkanth, Kedarnath. The trek takes you through dense forests with occasional open spaces for beautiful views of the high Himalayas. Alpine meadows, called Bugyals - unsurpassable in their beauty and offering a spectacular view of the mountains - are crossed before reaching the temple which is set at an altitude of 3886m, a fine example of ancient architecture.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Delhi - Rishikesh ( 230km; drive 6 hrs )
Drive to Rishikesh and check in at a hotel on arrival. Relax or take a wildlife safari in the evening in the Rajaji National Park which boasts of wildlife including big cats, elephants, antelope, wild boar and a variety of birds. Overnight stay and dinner at a hotel in Rishikesh.

Day 2: Rishikesh - Chopta (180km; 6 - 7hrs )
Drive to Chopta, which is one of the most beautiful spots in this part of the Himalayas with lush green landscapes, often called a mini Switzerland, stretching almost 40km. It is an ideal example of environmental conservation, where all construction is banned for the cause. Apart from humans it is also inhabited by rare Himalayan species like the Snow Leopard, Musk deer, Snow fox, Monal. Altitude varies from 1830m to 3964m. Set up camp on arrival and relax in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

Day 3: Chopta - Deoriatal ( 20km drive; 6km trek )
Drive to Sari village (1 hr) and then trek to Deoriatal which is a lake at an altitude of 1524m with a lovely view of the 7012m high Chaukhamba peaks. Return to Chopta in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

Day 4: Chopta -Tungnath ( 7km; 4 - 5hrs )
Begin the trek in the morning on a steep climb of 3.5km to reach 1000-year old Tunganath temple. A further climb of half a kilometer takes one to almost 3964m for the most breathtaking view of the high Himalayas from Chandrashila Peak. Climb down to Chopta in the afternoon. Evening - we spend at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp. All this while you are in and around Chopta, keep looking for the elusive snow leopard, a rare sight and only for the lucky ones!

Day 5: Chopta - Rishikesh (188km; 7 - 8hrs )
Drive back to Rishikesh, which is one of the holiest towns according to Hindu religion. En route visit Devprayag, the confluence of Rivers Bhagirathi and Alaknanda, which get together to form the holy Ganga. Check in at a hotel on arrival. Overnight stay at Rishikesh.

Day 6: Rishikesh
Spend the day in exploring the traditions and cultures of India on the banks of the holy river Ganga. Visit the Swargashram, the Ram and Lakshman Jhoolas, the Gita Bhavan and attend the evening "Arti" on the Ganga banks. Overnight at Rishikesh.

Day 7: Rishikesh - Delhi ( 178km; 5 hrs )
Drive back to Delhi to end the tour.
